Bike Fitting Assessment

Being comfortable and pain-free on the bike can be the difference between a tedious, shortened ride and an enjoyable, smooth ride.

Whether it is for comfort, performance, or injury prevention, speaking to a physiotherapist with cycling experience and an ability to make simple adjustments to you and the bike can make a considerable change. Fitting a bike is more artistic than scientific, so we always keep in mind we’re looking at you as an individual.

We will kindly ask you via email to fill out a form once you book an appointment to help us understand your current circumstances and goals you’d like to achieve. Read on below for more information regarding the appointment itself.

Please bring the bike you’re having concerns about. Please see the question below to ensure it will fit on our setup. Please also bring your questionnaire and consent form if you haven’t emailed it back. If you cannot fill it out at home, please attend 10 minutes early. You should also bring cycling clothing you wear the most or have concerns about as well. This includes shoes. If your shoes have cleats, please ensure these are clean and bolts are adjustable.

Please see Wahoo’s website for more information (link included here https://support.wahoofitness.com/hc/en-us/articles/4424303272722-KICKR-ROLLR-Bicycle-Compatibility). If you are not sure about the measurements mentioned on their site, we recommend speaking to a bike shop who can let you know. Please note the maximum total weight limit on the equipment is 250lbs/113kg.

Physiotherapists can assess, diagnose, and treat/prevent injuries that non-healthcare professionals cannot. A bike fitter will have more measurement knowledge, technology and ability to make a wider range of bike adjustments, however, this is often considerably more expensive and basic changes are enough to make a significant improvement. Our physiotherapist has several years of cycling experience (previous UEA Triathlon President and current cyclist on the Pedal Revolution team) and can work with you on making these adjustments.

A basic bike fit will focus on seat position and height, handlebar angle and height, shoe sizing, and cleat/foot position.

All our patients receive a physiotherapy assessment report which include adjustments made to the bike in clinic alongside future recommendations.

The plan put together with you and the physiotherapist will include treatment recommendations. If you do not require treatment but are having issues with the bike changes, you are welcome to return for a review included in the initial price but is limited to bike review only. Any review of exercises or manual therapies require a standard follow-up.

We do not sell or provide any bike specific parts but can make recommendations on different things to consider going forwards. Although our physiotherapist is on a local bike shop team, recommendations will not be limited to that shop, and no commission will be earned on the same.

We provide free 15-minute discovery calls where you can discuss your situation and concerns with the physiotherapist directly. Simply book and we will call you at the specified time.

What does an assessment involve?

Our bike physiotherapy clinic is based at our Coltishall clinic, where we have the space needed for the specialist equipment, your bike, and a full functional assessment. We use the Wahoo Kickr Rollr, allowing us to assess your own bike rather than a static fitting system. While this is a versatile setup, there are some limitations, so please see our FAQ section for details on compatible bikes and what we can accommodate.

Before your appointment, we’ll review the form you’ve completed to build a strong foundation for your assessment. During the session, we’ll discuss your injury history, training, previous treatment, and diagnosis where relevant. Completing this information beforehand allows us to spend more time assessing you on the bike, making adjustments, and carrying out detailed physical testing.

In clinic, we can adjust saddle height and position, handlebar height and angle, shoe fit, and cleat/foot position. We can also recommend more advanced changes that cannot be carried out during the appointment. Your physical assessment will include whole-body mobility, strength, and functional testing, with additional focus on any specific symptoms.

By the end of the session, we’ll have a clear understanding of your history, movement, and bike setup, enabling us to create a personalised plan to help you return to comfortable, enjoyable cycling. Any ongoing treatment will follow our standard physiotherapy approach.

Your body needs time to adapt to any changes made to your bike setup. While some improvements may feel immediate, others may need to be introduced gradually. We’ll explain what to expect, recommend an appropriate timeline, and help you build the changes into your training and daily routine in a sustainable way.

Jared listened well as I described the presenting injury and accompanying discomfort. He then patiently guided me through a series of effective exercises. By the time I got home, there was an email with picture guides and descriptions of his recommended therapeutic exercises. Easy to follow and easy to implement. The exercises are already helping with numbness and discomfort after just 2 days. I look forward to working with Jared and anticipate that the current discomfort from a carpel tunnel and rotator cuff injury will be managed and healed.

I am really pleased with my treatment.
I came to Randells because of heel pain. The podiatrist immediately saw that I had high arches, which I was unaware of! She suggested arch support insoles and a better way of lacing my shoes, which helped immediately.
I have now started a 4 week course of physio.
Everyone at Randells has been friendly and professional.
Thank you

My experience at Randell’s Healthcare has been absolutely fantastic. I booked a physiotherapy appointment for a recurring knee issue and was blown away by the level of care I received. The physiotherapist conducted a detailed assessment and immediately put me at ease with their friendly yet professional approach. They tailored my treatment to suit my needs, and the exercises they recommended have made a huge difference. The clinic itself is clean and welcoming, and I always felt I was in expert hands. I wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend their services to anyone in need of physiotherapy!

I can’t recommend Randell’s Healthcare enough! I went in with persistent lower back pain that had been bothering me for months. From the very first appointment, the physiotherapist was professional, thorough, and incredibly understanding. They explained everything clearly, from the root cause of my pain to the treatment plan, which included a mix of hands-on therapy and personalised exercises. After just a few sessions, I noticed significant improvement, and now I’m almost completely pain-free! The care and attention to detail were second to none.
