Infection Control and Randell’s Footcare

Carrie Robinson

Why is infection control important?

Precautions are put in place to reduce the risk of spreading infections and infectious diseases such as Hepatitis B (HBV), Hepatitis C (HCV), HIV, Verrucae and fungal nails.  Infection control is very important when choosing a foot care provider.

Who is most at risk?

People who can’t fight infections efficiently include:

Very young children

Older people

People who are ill or who are receiving particular medicines that reduce their immunity

People with long-term health conditions like diabetes

These people are more likely to develop infections.

Why come to an accredited foot care company?

Randells Footcare has a stringent infection control policy putting our patients minds completely at rest.  The bespoke policy was written by Carrie (our H&S Officer) and Clare (our Senior podiatrist) and approved by Karen (our Clinical Director).

Our procedures contain literally a step by step guide on how the clinical team clean the podiatry rooms and how they clean and sterilise all podiatry instruments to prevent any spread of infection.

Infection control precautions at Randell’s Footcare include:

  • Hand decontamination (hand washing process)
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Occupational exposure management (including sharp blades/ needles)
  • Safe disposal of clinical waste
  • Correct dealing with spillages of blood and bodily fluids
  • Management of the clinical environment (how to clean the clinic room)
  • Management of equipment (how to clean podiatry instruments)

Our clinics are set out in a particular layout helping prevent the risk of the spread of infections. The clinics are cleaned after every single patient and all instruments go through a cleaning and sterilising procedure. Our clinicians wear the correct PPE which is disposed of after each patient.

Randells Footcare clinics are accredited with the Royal College of Podiatry and all clinicians are internally audited at least annually by either the senior podiatrist or the H&S officer.
